On Sunday the Sandbach U18’s Girls made the short trip to Winnington Park to team up with Winnington, Widnes, Leek and Trentham against a Welsh U18’s development Squad.
As this was a development game and to get all of the girls as much game time as possible (22 girls) it was decided to play 4 x 15 minutes rotating players as much as possible.

The Welsh Squad turned up looking very professional arriving in their team coach and training kit with numerous coaching staff and physios.
The girls were not put off by this, and after a warm up and the selection of players for positions the home side were raring to go.
The first 15 minutes was a clash of the forwards, both trying their best to put pressure on each other to see who had the strongest pack. There were lots of midfield clashes making a very entertaining spectacle.
After a couple of breaks from the Welsh girls, when they did eventually move the ball out wide the first 15 mins came to an end with the score 0 – 14

After a brief break and change of personnel the next 15 mins commenced. As per the first 15 mins a lot of the play was a clash of the forwards, but eventually more ball was pushed out and down the lines which resulted in a score which was converted by the home side. Another exciting 15 mins ending with the score 7 – 14

At the start of the 3rd 15 mins the home side had their tails up and ran the ball well.
Good tackling and rucking, with both sides moving quickly from attack to defence. The home side eventually scored after a prolonged period of time camped out on the Welsh try line. Very well deserved after a good period of attack.
This stirred the visitors in to action and with a flourish of scores from the Welsh Girls the 15 minutes was up with the score 14 – 24
The final 15 minutes began with the Welsh Girls showing what they really could do. Lots of ball carrying and balls out to the wings left the home team girls stretched, chasing and tackling hard, but were eventually overcome by a good squad of girls.

The day was a very good occasion for the girls to test them against a very well drilled squad of girls selected from numerous clubs throughout Wales who regularly train and play together.

All girls performed with fantastic spirit and effort, and are already looking forward to a possible return match away in Wales.
