Women and Girl's Rugby Awards 2026

mat dolan23 Jun - 08:55

A Great Campaign!

Sandbach Women & Girls Section came together to celebrate another fantastic year of rugby at their inaugural End of Season Awards on Wednesday, recognising the dedication, commitment and achievements of players across all age groups.

The evening was a fitting opportunity to reflect on a season that has seen tremendous growth, resilience and success throughout the section. From training sessions in challenging conditions to competitive fixtures across the region, every player demonstrated the values that make Sandbach Rugby Club so special.

A particular mention must go to Lilah, Sophia and Poppi, whose commitment throughout the season has been nothing short of exceptional. The trio travelled to countless away fixtures, often in difficult weather conditions, to cluster with other teams and ensure they could continue to develop and compete at the highest level possible. Their hard work and determination were rewarded in spectacular fashion as they joined forces with Aldwinians to win the Northern Girls Network Cup, culminating in the unforgettable moment of lifting the trophy. Their achievement is a testament not only to their talent but also to their dedication, perseverance and love for the game.

The club also celebrated individual achievements across the age groups:

Under 14s

* Most Improved Player: Amelia
* Coaches' Player of the Year: Eliza

The Under 14s have shown remarkable progress throughout the season, with players developing their skills, confidence and understanding of the game week after week.

Under 16s

* Most Improved Player: Liz
* Coaches' Player of the Year: Isy

The Under 16s have had a season of ups and downs regarding games played but have demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship.

Women's Team

* Best Performance Award: Bec Hill
* Most Improved Player: Jo Hill

The women's squad continued to build momentum throughout the season, focusing on building skills and social connections, and culminating in a 4 team Inner Warrior tournamenthosted at Sandbach. The award winners were recognised for their impact on the team and the standards they have set throughout the year.

Speaking after the awards presentation, Women and girls lead, Ros Wiggins praised the efforts of every player involved in the section:

*" Every player has contributed to making this a fantastically successful year for Sandbach Women & Girls Rugby. We are incredibly proud of what the girls and women have achieved, particularly those who have gone above and beyond to represent the club and develop their rugby. Having players like Lilah, Sophia and Poppy come back each week with stories of how their games have gone, and them being able to lift the Northern Girls Network Cup was fantastic and a reward for all the hard work they have put in throughout the season."*

As the club looks ahead to next season, there is great excitement about the future. With strong foundations in place and a growing number of players progressing through the age groups, Sandbach Women & Girls Rugby continues to go from strength to strength.

As the section grows, we are looking for coaches and team managers to join the team. If you're interested please get in touch with Ros via email.
