SAD NEWS - The Loss of another Club warrior

Robert Mayor12 Mar - 20:20

It is with great sadness that we confirm the sudden passing of Chris Bennett, (CLICK For update)

Chris died on 11 March at the age of 69. He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday at his home.

Chris was widely known and deeply valued for the many roles he fulfilled at the club. He first came to the club over 20 years ago when he brought his son Rai to watch a mini game and was asked if he “fancied it”.

Chris went on to manage Rai’s age group through to Senior Colts and remained a dedicated volunteer ever since. In recent years he served as the club’s Diary and Sponsorship Coordinator and was the driving force behind developing this role. Chris managed the advertising boards around the pitch, organised clubhouse bookings and looked after sponsors on match days – sometimes a little too well!

He also helped organise many club functions, including beer festivals alongside his great friend Chris Munton-Hague, and played a key role in the administration of this year’s “Back to the Bach” Ball.

Chris began his rugby career at high school before playing senior rugby at his home club, Letchworth Garden City, with whom he continued to maintain strong links.

Everyone at the club sends their sincere condolences to his wife Kirsteen and children Rai and Teah at this incredibly difficult time.

The club will pay its respects with a minutes silence at the next home game on Saturday 21st March, which appropriately is "Legends Day" of which he was certainly one.

Anyone who was in contact with Chris regarding club business is asked to please contact the club by email at diary@sandbachrufc.co.uk.

PS I hope their are no spelling or grammar errors in this, he would not approve!
