We are sorry to report the news that former player Ray Brindley passed away recently (12th April) age 86 and we send our sincere condolences to all his family and friends. Ray was one of the original players when the club reformed in 1956, playing 1st XV hooker for the then Old Sandbachians until the mid 70’s having moved down the teams later in his rugby career. He was an active member, in particular serving on the General & Social Committee from 1965 to 1968. Having finished playing, Ray further helped out the club by taking to the whistle and refereeing games for the lower teams, back in the days when Society referees weren’t available for all matches.Though we haven’t seen him for some time at the club, particularly since he became heavily involved at Congleton Golf Club, he will be fondly remembered by many of the older generation at Sandbach RUFC.
RIP Ray
