A beautiful morning welcomed us at Whitby Sports and Social club to face our good friends from Ellesmere Port.
The morning started badly with Max's back injury flaring up and ruling him out. The list of injured is growing as the increased physicality becomes much more obvious this season. However being injured or not selected didn't stop Bendy, Connor, Max & John turning up to support their team mates - a great effort!!
The game plan was discussed, agreed in the changing room and the team went off from the start with this firmly fixed in their minds. Intensity was the plan and that was what Sandbach served up. A great team effort from a penalty on our own 2m line resulted in a tap and go leading to a fantastic try under the posts. Sandbach intensified the pressure and the half time scoreboard read 0 - 26. A fine display.
Personnel changes were made for the second half and the team stayed extremely well balanced and the scoreboard continued to tick over. The highlight of the day was an almost 80m incredible solo run from Morgan which was only squashed by a magnificent chase by one of the Ellesmere Port players.
Later in the half some poor discipline from Sandbach and the never say die attitude of Ellesmere Port saw a succession of penalties resulted in a great push over try to put Ellesmere Port on the board - well done!
The final whistle brought an end to a good display by Sandbach. However it is clear that discipline needs to be at the heart of training going forward with players adjusting their attitudes accordingly.
Next week sees us face Bowden, whom are a strong opponent where we must keep up the good work.
