A game of three halves!
As the fixture list clearly tells us at this time of the year, a new week brings a new opponent to Bradwall Road – this time Knutsford with an under-strength U14 squad apparently depleted by injury.
Taking to the field of play with a starting line from across the squad, it was clear from the kick off that Knutsford’s style of play – quick and open passing rugby – was capable of causing an upset despite the depleted squad. This proved correct initially and by the end of the first (of three!) halves the Sandbach U14s found themselves 5-10 down.
Half (or should that be third) time brought a number of changes with reinforcements to the forwards. This change in personnel resulted in a dramatic change in fortunes with the ball being cleanly won by the forwards and then passed out to the wings to great effect with 5 tries being added to the scoreboard – before Knutsford were able to respond with a single converted try.
The third half continued in a similar vein, with a further 4 tries by Sandbach before Knutsford added one additional converted try prior to the final whistle.
All in all a confident all-team performance with a highly satisfying result
