A game of four halves!
After last week’s “First XV” experience, Sandbach U14s came out in force and were more than equalled in numbers with Caldy bringing 34 players to Bradwall Road.
If ever a morning’s rugby could be described as a game of two (or four) halves – this was it.
During the first game Sandbach started in very much the way we had finished last week, with Sam Brookes running in a try within a few minutes of the start. However, as soon as Caldy appeared to have the measure of their competition, the scores were evened – although no further points were scored until half time.
With a number of Sandbach changes at half time, Caldy grabbed the momentum and took their opportunities to score an additional 34 points in the second half with some flowing rugby, predominately as a result of effective wing play – with no response from Sandbach.
With the majority of the 30 players taking to the pitch for the second game having not played in the first game, the roles were immediately reversed and Sandbach were 22 points ahead by half time and a total of 46 ahead by the final whistle – with no points on the board by Caldy. This impressive performance was the result of domination across all areas of the pitch – most reassuringly with a number of training drills being executed perfectly under pressure.
