A magnificent performance despite the score line…
The excitement of the first cup match of the season, amplified by the fact that the team were playing on the 2nd XV pitch, was palpable as the boys took to the field.
Riding on this wave of excitement – and possibly the blustery winds swirling around – the Under 14s produced an impressive full team performance and held back the score line for the first ten minutes before succumbing to Anslemians’ pressure.
However, of significant note was the way in which the majority of scrums were won and the ground gained through powerful rolling mauls. The power of a coordinated and disciplined Sandbach pack was evident throughout the game.
Given Anselmians’ performances over recent seasons, it was also impressive to see Sandbach clearly frustrating them at times – with Anselmians occasionally losing their discipline as a result.
The final score of 12-41 fails to reflect the very small gap in the quality of play between the two teams. So a performance to be proud of – playing like this throughout the season will surely result in more wins than losses for Sandbach.
