Looking at results throughout the season Wirral U14 versus Sandbach U14 was always going to be a close encounter.
The first half showed all the positives and hardwork that the Sandbach boys have promised throughout the second half of the 2013/14 season, as passing attacking rugby and resolute organised defence put the Bradwall Road boys on the front foot. It took some time and a number of phases before the prop broke down the right wing to score in the corner. This was followed up by number of attacking drives, which resulted in the right wing powering over for what would be the first of his hat-trick of tries. On balance the half time score of 10:0 was thoroughly deserved.
Half time 0:10
Playing on their home first team pitch, Wirral were always going to boss a period of the game and they came flying out of the traps at the start of the second half. Playing expansive rugby and through powerful forward play, Wirral tested all areas of the Sandbach defence as the first 10 minutes of the second half were played almost entirely inside the Sandbach 22. There were a number of try saving tackles, but the defences were eventually breached for Wirral to score an unconverted try. In previous weeks this would have signalled a reversal of fortunes, but on finals day the Sandbach boys bossed their way back into the game. The next score was always going to be key and a Sandbach set play from a 22 metre penalty put the right wing in at the corner. The game was starting to open up and a piece of rapid forwards interchange from a ruck released the right wing to score in the corner. Wirral never gave up and came back at Sandbach to score a converted try for the last play of an entertaining final.

It's been a long and sometimes very tough season, but the parents and coaches that watched the early pre-Christmas defeats and were then lucky enough to watch the final, should be proud of the whole squad and the effort they have invested throughout the season to improve their game and proudly represent the club with such an excellent end of season display. Well done boys.
Thanks to Wirral U14's players, coaches and parents for an excellent game and for being good hosts of the U14's Cheshire Finals Day - enjoy your summer and we look forward to meeting you again next season.
Signing off for the season.
