Sandbach have yet another difficult game this weekend, when 3rd placed Scunthorpe travel to Bradwall Road, having lost just the one game all season. Sandbach’s cause is certainly not helped with a long list of injuries and unavailability, with prop John Whittaker cracking a rib last Saturday, to add to the number of forwards who have picked up upper body fractures so far this campaign. This perhaps shows what a physical league it is at Regional Premier level and also for teams to have a large squad of players to call upon. Accordingly, this Saturday will give the chance for some of Sandbach’s young talent to show what they can do at this level, with many of them having performed well in the Saxons, who currently remain unbeaten in their league. Certainly, they have the talent with most having come up through the ranks of the club’s Mini / Junior section, if as yet they don’t quite have the physical presence that their more senior teammates have.
Saturday also sees the move to an earlier kick off time of 2.15 pm as a result of the clocks going back last weekend and the nights drawing in. This is the period where Sandbach traditionally begin to waver, as the ground and handling conditions worsen, so they will be hoping for a fine and dry day, so that they can utilise their handling game. Whatever the outcome one thing is for sure is that an entertaining game will be provided and with a strong home crowd urging the boys on, anything is possible, as they have shown many a time before.
