This weekend Sandbach travel to Oundle RFC for the first time in their history, which will be one of their longer trips of the season. Despite their lowly position Oundle who came into the Midlands Premier this season following promotion from Midlands 1 East, they have been shown to be competitive. However, they regularly have missed out by just a score, as evidenced by eight losing bonus points to date. Even in the game at Bradwall Road earlier in the season, it was no stroll in the park for Sandbach, as it was close for a significant part of the match, with the visitors in the lead for a couple of times in the game.
By all accounts Oundle’s pitch is on the small and heavy side, so Sandbach will be hoping for dry conditions to run some of the opposition’s big forwards around. With Monty Weatherby out on loan to Jersey Reds and a few other players unavailable, once more there is opportunities for the young talent in the squad, but senior players Jack Leech and Ross Sutherland should also be available this week. Sandbach come off the back of a decent win against Nuneaton, where they played some nice open rugby but will also be looking to be a little more clinical in taking their chances, if they are to come home with the spoils on Saturday.
