After a week off and the disappointment of the World Cup final, Sandbach return to action, with the long trip down to Cambridgeshire to face Peterborough Lions. The Lions returned to the Midlands Premier this season, having been promoted to National 2 as play off winners a couple of seasons ago, but the visit was short lived. Unfortunately, the relegation appears to have had an effect and they have lost the core of the team and are currently in the process of rebuilding. As a result, they currently lie at the bottom of the league, having failed to pick up a point so far. Sandbach though will need to be wary of a wounded Lion, particularly as the message boards seem to indicate reinforcements could be on the way. Whilst also Sandbach do have a bit of history of messing it up in similar circumstances and have lost more than once to the bottom team in recent seasons.
Having had a week off Sandbach should have a relatively full squad to pick from, though there are still a few injuries and unavailability’s. With the Saxons continuing to perform well there is however competition for places and on the back of a solid performance against Paviors, they will be looking to follow that up on the road. Despite the Lions appearing to be not quite as strong as previously, Sandbach know from experience there are no easy games in this league. Accordingly, they will need to do a professional job, if they are to come away with the points on Saturday.
