Buoyed by a good victory away at Broadstreet last weekend, Sandbach will be looking forward to the visit of Bromsgrove on Saturday with a degree of optimism. Bromsgrove will be quietly confident themselves though, coming off the back of an impressive 49 v 5 home win against the much-fancied Peterborough Lions. Further having romped to promotion last season out of Midlands 1 West and not having lost since October of last year, they will look to go one better than there last visit to Bradwall Road in 2016. On that occasion Sandbach won 35 v 18 against their injury hit visitors, securing survival at Level 5 again for the season. Bromsgrove have a reputation for playing a free running and open game, so Sandbach need to be aware of their threat from wherever on the pitch.
Sandbach have shown they can score tries themselves though, with four or more tries in each of their games so far this season. They do however have the slight handicap of a couple of unfortunate red cards last weekend, but with the Stormers continuing to impress, there is at least ready-made replacements capable of stepping up to the mark.
The game will acknowledge the sad recent passing away of club legend George Jones at the grand old age of 97. George along with other stalwart supporters Jon Lea and Ben Staples was due to sponsor the game and I’m sure an entertaining encounter, with Sandbach spoiling the visitors record would be a fitting tribute to him. Fingers crossed.
