Sandbach 1st XV took home maximum points against Winnington Park on Saturday, beating their local rivals in a 64-7 try-fest. The Bach, playing in black, secured the all-important bonus point as the breezed to victory and kept themselves in the promotion hunt.
Elliot Morris broke the club record of 34 tries in a season, which was previously set by Dan Massey. Morris won his seventh hat-trick of the season with no sign of him slowing down. The winger has been on blistering form this season and with two league games and at least one cup match still to play, you'd expect him to further add to that record haul.
Meanwhile, Oli Jones made his 1st XV debut, joining fellow graduates from last year's Colts team, Will Bowbeer and Matt Randle. Captain Jimmy Gore was the player of the match for his outstanding defence and leadership.
League rivals Firwood Waterloo slipped up in their battle with Bowdon making the promotion battle too close to call. Sandbach remain in third place, trailing three points behind Waterloo and four points behind the new league leaders Bowdon.
With no games scheduled at the weekend, Sandbach will be preparing for Altrincham Kersal’s visit to Bradwall Road the following week. The Bach won by two points when the two sides met in December, with extreme weather playing havoc and affecting play. This time round, Sandbach will be hoping for better weather but most importantly a big crowd and a big win.
