This Saturday sees Sandbach go again, for what will be the last time this season, but it is a big one. It’s the Cheshire Cup final against Anselmians at Stockport RUFC and Sandbach will be looking to finish the campaign with a flourish, after an impressive season, which saw them finish 5th in the Midlands Premier and reach their greatest points total at this level.
Sandbach last played in the Cheshire Cup final five years ago, losing 35 v 19 to Caldy and have never won the trophy. So, they will be keen to put that right and create a bit of club history. Having looked impressive in attack last weekend, against a strong Burton outfit, they will be keen to replicate that on Saturday, but will also know there are still areas to work on.
Sandbach will be under no illusion over the strength of the opposition on Saturday, who have just won their league to get promoted to North One West and have only lost one game all season. Further having beaten Birkenhead Park, Macclesfield and Lymm on route to the final, they will not be lacking in confidence, particularly as all these sides play at a higher level than them. In reality, having recruited wisely over the summer and possessing several former Caldy players, they would hold their own at Level 5. Accordingly, Sandbach will need to bring their A game, if they are to bring home some silverware, to cap off a quality season.
As a result, get down to Stockport Rugby Club this Saturday, to give the lads 80 more minutes of support, in what should be a brilliant game.
