Saturday sees the return of local historic rivalries with the visit of Macclesfield in the semi final of the Cheshire Cup. It is some time now that the two teams have played one another, when years ago it was a regular fixture and classic encounters occurred, particularly in days when the league system was in its infancy. Macclesfield though during the intervening period has grown from a local amateur town club like Sandbach, to recently playing at the National Level 1 and now field a semi-professional first team squad. Sandbach will particularly welcome the return of Macclesfield skipper Mike Finemore who a few years ago was one of our own and similarly a few of the old boys will be meeting past acquaintances and no doubt regaling one another of battles of yore.
