Sad News as a Man who made an Exceptional Contribution to the Growth of Sandbach RUFC, regrettably passes away at age 56
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of lifetime club member and Sandbach RUFC stalwart Jon Stubbs.
Jon passed away yesterday (3rd March) after a short but aggressive illness. Our thoughts go out to all the family, his mum Cath, brothers David, Mick & Chris and all his relatives many of whom are connected to the club, including nephew Kieran Stubbs (1st team squad scrum half)
Jon joined the General Committee in 1985 when he was only 22 and was instrumental in helping build the club both on & off the field. Though always playing by and large at a social level, having come through the embryonic Mini / Junior section of the club, his playing career was cut short caused by a mixture of a bad knee injury and a serious car accident. He did however go on to fill many an administrative role at the club, including House Committee Chairman, Grounds Secretary, and 1st XV Manager. Virtually every part of the club house and grounds has his stamp on them. He coached Junior teams and led many a tour, taking over from the illustrious John Frayling in this role.
A full account of his life and connection to Sandbach RUFC will follow. We hope, in the near future, we will be able to celebrate his life at the club. Please email your memories and pictures of Jon and his connection to you to Robert.mayor@gorsefields.co.uk
