Sandbach 1st XV have been drawn against Burnage in the first round of the Papa John's Regional Plate which will take place on 12th April, one week after the league campaign concludes. This game is a straight knockout and will kick off at Bradwall Road at 3pm. Competition rules state all clubs can use squads of upto 22 so this is a great way to reward those players who have contributed to the league season whilst also preparing for the 25/26 campaign.
The winner of this game will then play Widnes (at home) on 26th April before reaching the QTR final which will be against Midlands based clubs Melbourne or Ikeston away from home on 3rd May. The semi-final and final follow on the 10th & 16/17 May respectively. The final will be played at a neutral venue (tbc) and against a team from the 'south section' of the draw and is likely to be at a venue such as Sixways based on previous years events.
Sandbach have always entered and competed in this cup since its introduction a few years ago with varied success. Its pleasing to be able to plan our involvement with early information and dates, especially knowing the format and there is something exciting about knockout rugby! We hope to finish the league season off really positively with a real focus on Vale of Lune away from home early March whilst lets not forget trips to Widnes, Winnington Park and Burnage who will certainly be looking to stop our current momentum.
