It is with sadness that we report the passing away of long-standing club member Lewis Martin. Lewis’s rugby career was very much based in North Shropshire, playing scrum half at Whitchurch Grammar School and then Whitchurch Rugby Club. Moving to Sandbach after his playing career, he exhibited all the archetypal attributes of his playing position, being never short of an opinion and a love of being provocative, but always in a good humoured, never too serious way.

He was well known to many of the older members of the club but also a number of the younger ones. Particularly those that frequented a few of the local hostelries in the town. Though not being in the greatest of health in recent years, he remained typically upbeat despite this.

Condolences to wife Joan and the rest of the family. Lewis your cheeky demeanor will be missed.

Funeral Details:
2pm Thursday 5th March - Birches Crematorium- Lostock Green, Lach Dennis. CW9 7SU then after that onto the Rugby Club.
Jo said Lewis requested plenty of bright colours and thought he would be more than happy with club blazers & ties.
