Death of Former Club Captain Keith Burrows

Death of Former Club Captain Keith Burrows

Peter Davenport17 Jun 2023 - 10:40

Funeral 3rd July at St Mary's 11.30 am

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing away of our former Club Captain Keith Burrows earlier today. Keith joined the Old Sandbachians from the school and went on to become the main stay of the 1st XV for over a decade. Playing at inside centre, he was renowned for his devastating tackling, unselfish play and was also capable of making a tidy break when he wanted to. He captained the 1st XV in the 1981/82 season and was instrumental in the success of the club in the eighties, being part of the promotion teams in the Giro Bank Leagues and Potteries Cup victories at that time.

Keith along with his younger brothers, Nigel and Tony (aka Bugsy), formed the backbone of the three-quarter line and he went on to play County representative rugby and also help son Tom graduate to the 1st XV years later. He will be fondly remembered as a lovely man and as good a player as ever has worn the green and red shirt.

Sincere condolences to the whole family.
