Sandbach welcome Newbold on Avon who pay their first ever visit to Bradwall Road and include in their ranks Richard Murray, a former favourite down at the Bach. Newbold having been promoted last season to the Midlands Premier, have found wins hard to come by but have been competitive in every game, as their 5 v 21 loss to second placed Peterborough Lions showed last week. When Sandbach played them earlier in the season, they came away with a hard fought 20 v 36 victory and know that like last week, they will be in for another physical confrontation, against some big ball carriers. As is always the case at this time of the season, squad depth is tested, due to injuries and availability, so it is pleasing to see young players from the academy get their opportunity, with James Finucane and Harm Dokter recently getting game time. This week sees Kieran Stubbs as the latest cab off the rank and there is plenty more talent in the Stormers, waiting for their opportunity to show their skills, which is encouraging for the long-term future. Let’s hope the weather stays dry so the that Sandbach can move the ball around and hopefully take some of the steam out of their heavyweight opponents.
