Bruce Thompson
Update : The Funeral has been arranged for Friday 25 April at 12.30 at St. Marys. Then afterwards at the club from about 2.30. Everyone that knew Dad is more than welcome to join us.
It is with great sadness and deep regret that I report the death of Bruce Thompson. Bruce had been ill for a while and seemed to be on the road to recovery before a sudden turn for the worse this weekend.
Bruce was a loyal and supportive member of Sandbach Rugby Club, and held significant roles in the Mini-Junior section where he was Secretary and Chairman from 1986 until 1997.
The Club has lost a great member and supporter as well as a great friend and our thoughts and sympathies are with his wife and family at this sad time.
Bruce was to attend a match this coming Sunday to watch his 2 sons play for their Nottingham team. As a mark of respect his son Stuart and his brother firmly believe Bruce would wish this to go ahead and hence the game will proceed on Sunday at Bradwall Road with a 2.30 kick-off. Stuart would like to see as many people down on Sunday as possible firstly to watch and support the match but secondly and more importantly to toast Bruce's memory after the game.
RIP
Last Weekend
No 1st or 2ndXV rugby, but the 3s and 4s combined to beat a combined 1st & 2ndXV from neighbours Holmes Chapel in a friendly.
On Sunday we entertained Stirling County who were down on tour and had some good wins. It was Cheshire Semi-Final day and the Junior Colts had a good win against local rivals Crewe & Nantwich in the semi-final of the Plate. Unfortunately, the Senior Colts simply didn't perform and were second best by 5-9 to arch rivals Altrincham Kersal in the semi of the Cheshire Cup, who gained their revenge for the defeat at their place the previous week.
This Saturday
Normal service resumes this weekend, with the 1stXV away at Broughton Park; the 2nds at home against Vale of Lune; the 3s entertain Rochdale and the 4s travel to Macc On Sunday it's Cheshire Cup Festival day for the Minis. At Sandbach we are hosting the U10s festival, while the other age-groupos travel away. The U7s are at Bowdon; 8s at Macc; 9s at Anselmians; 11s at Wirral and the 12s at Caldy. The Junior siades are all away - U13s &14s at Burton on Trent, 15s at Bridgnorth and the 16s at Leek.
Both Colts sides are at Liverpool St Helens, the Juniors in the League Bowl semi-final and the Seniors in the League Cup semi-final.
Good luck to all teams.
Cheers
Tim
