Cheshire Plate Quarter Final day saw Sandbach travel to the Wirral to play Anselmians. With several key players missing this was never going to be an easy game with a re-shuffle requiring several players to play outside of their normal positions.
Sandbach kicked to start the game which got off to a furious start with both sides missing opportunities to score. One Sandbach score was thwarted as the player stumbled in a hole behind the posts and spilled the ball.
The first points went to the home team with a well taken try and the extras added. Fortunately our boys seemed to find their form once behind and their constant pressure found them scoring, to turn around at the break just two points behind.
Anselmians kicked to Sandbach who fed the ball straight out to one of their centres who ran in an impressive solo try. Sandbach maintained this intensity and scored three more times two of which were converted. With a healthy lead and the game won the Bradwall road boys relaxed and allowed their hosts who never gave up, two well deserved tries. They really need to learn how to maintain their concentration and efforts for the full duration, that said it was a fine result which sees them through to the semi-finals of the plate competition.
Thanks to Anselmians for a competitive game and their usual fine hospitality.
Ally - 2 conversions
James - try
Joe - 4 tries
