With another game cancelled at late notice by opposition the previous week it has been difficult for the Sandbach team to develop any consistancy in their play. After the excellent form shown against Chester this was a disappointing defeat. Not the loss as such to a well drilled Lymn side but the nature of the defeat. Sandbach failed to follow coaching instructions and make the most of a slight breeze in the first half to put Lymn under pressure. Their best rugby was played in areas of pitch that couldn't lead to scores and coupled to a poor defensive display Sandbach really didn't give themselves a chance of victory.
The game was lost in the first half when the Sandbach backs were continually drawn in field allowing Lymn to move the ball wide. Together with numerous missed tackles this gave Lymn the chance to build a first half lead by scoring 3 tries. Sandbach did create opportunities but were only able to turn one into a try for Dave Steer who continued his excellent form.
To their credit despite playing into the breeze, Sandbach battled well to tie the second half at 7 all. The try followed a 50m dash by Jonny Lea after some good build up play.
A number of players put in good individual performances and particular thanks go to Elliot Barton who played out of position at full back and delivered a accomplished display that deserved a better reward.
The players will learn from this defeat and must stay focussed on the long term aims of developing the whole squad into better players. They must stay positive. The depth of talent and the size of squad would be envied by most clubs in Cheshire and this will eventually produce the results that the hard work deserves.
