Chester 14 - Sandbach 7 |

Sun 4 February 2007
The teams had fought out a draw earlier in the season, and with both teams unbeaten this was dubbed as the unofficial Cheshire Cup Final. With both first choice wingers and the scrum-half unavailable, Sandbach re-organised their back line with utility players Adam Lancaster-Bartle and Jack Blackhurst moving to the wings, and Thomas Butler coming in as scrum-half.
The game started and continued throughout at a punishing, unrelenting pace in front of a packed crowd enjoying the winter sunshine. The first half ebbed to and fro with both sides playing open rugby but unable to find space to break down determined defences. With the last play of the first half Chester broke the deadlock with a converted try for a 7-0 interval lead.
Early in the second half Chester’s fly-half kicked deep into the Sandbach half. The ball bounced beautifully for a pursuing Chester player, who ran in the try to put Sandbach further behind. Sandbach again rallied and took the game to Chester, and following concerted pressure Hugo Fairlie reduced the arrears. With the try converted for 7-14, Chester remained focussed and organised, and were able to thwart a Sandbach equaliser.
