Building on last week there was another significant shift in our performance. Both teams approached the games with aggression and commitment.
Over the last two weeks I have seen all players demonstrate good levels of drive and determination. Most pleasing was the way we got over the gain line and for long periods retained and recycled the ball. A number of players are now really growing in confidence, taking on & beating defenders & really showing a determination to score tries.
Tackling continues to improve!
The biggest issue we still have though is players are still getting isolated. We talked on Sunday about passing and about the importance of getting the ball wide to the speedsters on the wings. I asked everyone to think about making the pass before they were tackled. We made very little progress here!
Stoke on Trent are a really good side. They have only lost 1 match all season to Lymm. On Sunday they really showed an ability to move the ball. They scored a number of tries by getting it to the wings.I am struggling to think of our wingers receiving any passes.
Boys; we need to develop an ability to play team rugby. If we want to compete with the best teams in Cheshire we have to realise that passing and continuity are key. There were some fine solo tries on Sunday but there were also many opportunities to keep the attack going that were wasted because “White Line Fever” took over.
Next week we will put that right. The talent & ability in this team is excellent. We go on Tour with a determination that we are going to play 9- man rugby!
Look out Southport!!
