SANDBACH 4th TEAM CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF RUGBY

Next September in addition to the Club being 50 years in existence, the 4th team celebrates 30 years of Rugby. The fourth team came into existence in 1976, When Sandbach and Dane RUFC combined a side to ensure that all local players got a game. In their second season, their results were played four, won one drawn two and lost two.

Over the years’ several Club stalwarts have captained the side, including, Paul Jones, Tony Brookes, Colin Pritchard, Neil Rowley, Clive Holland, Brian Hill, Chris Allen, Tony Astles, Keith Burrows, Graham Armstrong, Richard Taylor, Roger Bradley, Mark Thompson, Gavin Smith, Robin Pipe, Darren Stonier and of course Nick Brown.

It has always been a social side and during the eighties their tours to the North East were legendary, in 1986 & 1987 they went on tour to Newcastle and in 1988 went to Whitley Bay for the first time playing against Rockcliffe. In 1984 the 4th team laid their infamous patio at the front of the Clubhouse (it is now covered by the car park). Mark Thompson continued the social side of the 4ths with their Curry Nights.

This season saw them playing in a league for the first time, and after an slow start they are beginning to find their feet, as Captain Nick Brown takes them from strength to strength.
