Scorers: Jordan Ravenscroft
Carter Dunn
Josh Brookes
What a result! After a long break over Christmas, it didn’t take us long to get back into the groove. Straight from the kick off, Macc put us under pressure, but we dealt with it superbly and attacked at every opportunity. The sides were well matched, and for the first time this season, we came up against a pack of forwards as mobile as our own.
Once again though, our forwards proved they are a match for anyone, winning a scrum against the head, to set the backs going to put a great move together for Jordan to score the opening try.
This rattled Macclesfield (and their coaches!), and they tried to hit back, but were met by a brick wall of tackling and stout defence. Once again the forwards pressed, and were rewarded with a try from Carter Dunn, to go in at half-time with a lead.
At half-time, we counted the cost of our lead, with injuries to several players, but the replacements acquitted themselves admirably. Macc came out with aggression and speed, but again were met with defiance. Eventually though, pressure told, and they scored after several minutes of intense pressure, in which we were unlucky to finally fold.
In true quality fashion though, we hit them back with an imperious try from Josh Brookes, who had been excellent all game, to truly seal an excellent victory.
There were several notable performances; our tackling excellent all round, and the passing and decision making in the backs was awesome, especially between Luke Pickles and Jordan Ravenscroft in the first half. A special mention, though, has to go to the final try scorer Josh Brookes, who worked tirelessly and led from the front.
