During the close season the RFU have undertaken some restructuring to the League tables nationally and Sandbach are now in NORTH ONE WEST.  This league has the same teams as last year, there were no relegations, plus four new teams and these are Aspatria, Vale of Lune, Burnage and Tyldesley. The 2nd Team, 3rd Team and 4th Team are all in the Miller Homes Leagues, those being Division 1, West 3  and 5 South respectively, all will be massively challenged and all will appreciate whatever support maybe available.

Those who have visited the Club recently will have seen the Club development in progress and although we were desperate to have the Kitchen and Dining area completed for the start of the season, unfortunately it’s not been possible. Our target now is to have this ready by the end of October 2009.  Of course I refer to Phase 1 of the development, Phase 2 will begin in May next year and when complete will provide refined welfare facilities including an en suite shower room for every changing room.

The new entrance porch at the Club is close to completion and you will notice a blank wall on the left as you enter, this is where the named bricks will go so please contact Rob Mayor if you haven’t already done so.

Sandbach RUFC often finds itself with a few people doing many things, we should strive, I believe, to have many people doing a few things.
No doubt you will remember the above statement from my first letter to the membership, with this in mind I am requesting volunteers to help with two jobs:-

·         We require help behind the bar at busy times, this is likely to be limited to an hour, just pulling pints while the regular staff operate the till. Once a rota has been established it’s likely you will only be required once or twice during the season.

·         The second job is gate duty on 1st Team home games, to sell programmes to visiting supporters and direct traffic to the overspill car park. Again, it is likely volunteers would only be required once during the season

Anyone interested in helping with the above should let me know and I shall provide a little more detail on what is required.

Thank you in advance of your support and may all teams have a fine start to the season.

On Your Bike" - for the Dave Twemlow Trust

Paul Standring, 4th Team Captain and his father-in-law Roy Hill, who is over 70 years young, successfully completed their challenge to cycle from Lands end to Sandbach rugby Club in little more than 4 days. They completed this near 400 mile trip early on Wednesday morning 15th July 2009, having started in Lands End the previous Saturday. Paul and Roy were welcomed back to the club by their family, friends and Dave Twemlow, who had travelled across from Oswestry Hospital for the afternoon, to thank them in person Paul and Roy expect to add between £2500 and £3000 to the Dave Twemlow Trust Fund.

It was very special to see Dave back at the club, albeit only for a few hours.
Dave's physio is progressing well and the current plan is for Dave to leave hospital in early August 2009. My Understanding is that Dave will then continue with his rehabilitation once he is home and I know that the entire membership of Sandbach Rugby Club will be wishing him well during this process.

Finally well done Paul and Roy, the club is proud of your efforts and thanks to those who made the effort  to welcome them back.

Welcome everyone to the new season - aren’t the grounds looking fantastic! Well done to Club Groundsman Richard Vaughan and Jon Stubbs for their hard work in the close season; the pitches look to be in tip-top condition. In addition, the building work is coming along nicely and the roof should be on soon and we hope to weather-tight shortly after that. The porch has been built and awaits finishing off, but we still need you to buy more bricks, so that we can put them up on the block wall by the main entrance. A news item has been posted on the website rounding up last season and previewing the season to come - please do have a look.

Buy-a-Brick –

We are close to being able to produce our first sponsored bricks , if you would like to be part of history please contact Rob Mayor NOW! We have so far raised over £3000 against our target of £10,000.

Your name on a brick in the Club forever! As part of the development plan, we are raising funds by selling named bricks that will be incorporated into the proposed porch/foyer area. Personalised bricks are available at just £100 each, with all funds going directly towards the redevelopment – not bad for a permanent mark or tribute! Please contact your team manager or me and please support your Club in our efforts to improve the clubhouse.

Finally, you may have heard of Utility Warehouse, the "one stop shop" for all your utilities. Not only are you likely to save money on those essential needs, such as electricity, gas, telephone, internet and mobile, but Sandbach RUFC receive an additional monetary benefit for each member who signs up and everytime a bill is paid. So, help yourselves and Sandbach RUFC at the same time. Click on the advert opposite.
