Our researchers have, once again, been delving into local archives and have unearthed a rugby union football version of Rudyard Kipling’s famous poem “If”. The version, although unsigned, is dated 1938. As Kipling died in 1936, claims that it may have actually been penned by the great man are unlikely to be substantiated. Festival organiser Woody Barlow, when asked if he was fond of Kipling, replied that, to his knowledge, he had never kippled but would be prepared to give it a try.
